24th March 09 - Magpies Support The FA Respect Programme

FA Respect - Lose Respect, Lose the Game. Click here to find out more.

Respect Programme

Poor behaviour by coaches, parents and players towards referees means that on average, 7,000 referees quit football every year because of the abuse they receive from players and from the sidelines.

Lots of children also pack it in because of the attitude and actions of over-enthusiastic and pushy parents. Parental behaviour is one of the main reasons why young players drop out of football.

Respect is The FA's programme to combat unacceptable behaviour in football at every level - on the pitch and from the sidelines.

The FA hope the Respect programme will have an impact on the following areas:

Referee recruitment and retention: By tackling abuse towards match officials, the FA hopes to reduce the stream of referees understandably leaving the game.

Participation within youth football: Abuse and pressure from the sidelines needs to stop if the FA are to ensure young children enjoy, stay and progress in the game.

Coaching and player development: An encouraging and player-centred approach is vital if the FA are to improve coaching standards - particularly for the key 5-11 age-group. It's simple: better coaches produce better players.

Safeguarding children: Everyone in football has a duty of care towards children - ensuring they are able to play football in a safe, enjoyable environment free of abuse, bullying and discrimination.

Improving behaviour  - on and off the field, is a whole-game issue and the Respect programme will be introduced at professional and grassroots levels.

Church Stretton Magpies hope that Respect will ensure a safe, positive environment for everyone to enjoy football.

23rd March 09 - Magpies In Good Voice At Shrewsbury Town

Last Saturday, Magpies held their annual club trip and took 150 players, parents and friends to Shrewsbury Town FC too watch Shrewsbury play Morecambe.

Three coaches were charted to transport the large party and added to the match day experience as the group were dropped off at the Prostar Stadium.

Bright spring sunshine ensured the club were in good spirits and they made themselves heard by singing and cheering for the whole game.

The event was enjoyed by all those that came. Although all this extra support couldn't inspire Shrewsbury who could only manage a 0 - 0 draw.
