The Football Club

Church Stretton Magpies FC was formed in 1974, and has celebrated over 35 years of running football teams for children aged 5-16 in and around the Church Stretton area. The club holds chartered status and all team managers are FA qualified.

Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength culminating in a record 11 teams being fielded for the 2003-04 season. Such has been the popularity of football in the area that several age groups have also fielded reserve teams.

The club currently has 6 teams playing league football, a mixed age girls team and a Saturday morning crèche for under 7's.

The U8 - U10 teams play Mini Soccer on smaller pitches with either 5 or 7 players a-side. Once children reach U11 they play with 9 players a-side, on near full size pitches for 2 years and at U13 they play 11 a-side.

The standard of football in South Shropshire as a whole continues to improve, year by year. This is borne out by the success of South Shropshire in the Inter League with Shrewsbury and Telford and also the recruitment of several players from the league to Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town.

As well as achieving success, it is also important to remember that the essence of the club is to provide opportunities for children to play football. This season we are providing that facility for in the region of 120 children.

Every summer we run a Mini Soccer course over a 6 week period, for children aged between 5 and 11. This is always popular and helps to raise much needed funds for the club.

The club is affiliated to Church Stretton Old Boys and acts as a feeder club to them. This ensures that there is a pathway for any boys who wish to go on to play adult football, once they have reached the age of 17.

Church Stretton Magpies FC is here for the sole purpose of providing football for children in a safe and friendly environment and is here to benefit everybody associated with the club. It is your club and we can only make it work with everyone's help and co-operation.
